October is a month long campaign to highlight the importance of learning CPR and how to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
It also celebrates both Restart-a-Heart day (Sunday the 16th October) and Halloween (Monday the 31st October).
Restart a Heart is aimed at increasing awareness and educating what to do in case of a Cardiac Arrest.
- Every Year around 30,000 Australians and New Zealanders suffer out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
- Every day around 19 Victorians have a Cardiac Arrest.
- 9 in 10 people (90%) don’t survive.
- Every minute a patient is in Cardiac Arrest and not receiving CPR and AED shock reduces the chances of survival by 10%.
- 80% of out of hospital cardiac arrests happen in our homes.
- After 10 minutes without intervention the damage caused by cardiac arrest is nearly irreversible.
Would you know what to do if you were the only one around and someone had a Sudden Cardiac Arrest? Most don’t.
