Course Description
Overview/Content
Walk away with confidence not just competence!
Emergency situations happen without notice and can be both traumatic and shocking. This
unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation
(CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. It applies to all
persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community
and workplace settings.
Specific licensing/regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements
for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work
Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.
Learning Objectives
You will need to physically demonstrate the following:
• Emergency Action Plan DRSABCD
• Recovery/side/lateral position & improvising methods
• Perform CPR as single rescuer, with rotations • Respond appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting
• Use adult (on floor) and infant (firm surface) manikins
• Operate Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) relevant procedures
• Give a verbal account to emergency services, and participate in a Debrief/evaluation, and complete an incident report form

45 to 60 min Express Practical “Face to Face” in classroom.
60 to 75 min Practical “Face to Face” in classroom.
1.5 -2.0 Blended delivery (online & in classroom), shorter for Express Refresher

More About This Course
Language, literacy and numeracy requirements are needed to undertake this course.
Specifically, students need the ability to:
- Be able to complete simple forms and reports
•Verbally communicate important details of an incident.
•Read guidelines for resuscitation. - Age 14 and above, with ages 14-16 years with parental consent
- Completing online registration and knowledge evidence of this course
- It is important to note that the HLTAID competency standards do require a level of physical ability to meet the evidence requirements for assessment. These standards relate to the level of performance required to provide resuscitation and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to life.

How long does the Provide CPR course take to complete?
We use a convenient blended delivery method. Students complete a short online theory component at their own pace prior to attending a quick, face-to-face practical assessment (which typically less than an hour).
Can I book a CPR course onsite for my workplace?
Yes, we offer tailored workplace first-aid training. Our experienced trainers can come to your location for group bookings.
How long is an HLTAID009 CPR certificate valid for?
In accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines, the HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation certificate must be renewed every 12 months to remain valid.
Do I have to perform CPR on the floor to pass?
Yes. To meet the strict national assessment requirements for the HLTAID009 unit, all students must demonstrate that they are capable of dealing with an emergency situation. This involves at least 2 minutes of uninterrupted single-rescuer CPR on an adult manikin placed on the floor.
Does Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) include this CPR course?
Yes! The HLTAID009 CPR unit is fully included within the broader HLTAID011 Provide First Aid course. If you complete Provide First Aid, you do not need to book a separate CPR class.
What is the difference between HLTAID001 and HLTAID009?
HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation is the current, nationally recognised unit of competency. It is the direct replacement for the older, superseded HLTAID001 course..
