Course Description
Overview/Content
Emergency situations happen without notice and can be both traumatic and shocking. This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. It applies to all persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. Specific licensing/regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities
Learning Objectives
Physically demonstrate the following; Action Plan DRSABCD Recovery/side/lateral position & improvising methods Perform CPR as single rescuer, with rotations Respond appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting Use adult (on floor) and infant (firm surface) manikins Operate Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) & relevant procedures Give a verbal account to emergency services, and participate in a Debrief/evaluation, and complete an incident report form
Prerequisites
Although there are no pre requisites for the HLTAID009 Students will be required to upload a current HLTAID009 if they haven’t been with Emergency First Aid previously.
Delivery Mode
Delivery option timeframes depending on class size numbers: 2.5-3.5 hrs ‘Face to Face’ delivery (in classroom), 1.5-2 hours Blended delivery (online & in classroom)

Additional Information
Language, literacy and numeracy requirements are needed to undertake this course. Specifically, students need the ability to:
•Be able to complete simple forms and reports
•Verbally communicate important details of an incident.
•Read guidelines for resuscitation.
