Overview/Content
Learning Objectives
- Perform CPR on adults and infants using the latest techniques.
- Use an AED (defibrillator) safely and correctly.
- Recognise and manage breathing emergencies, including:
– Asthma
– Anaphylaxis & Shock
– Choking - Control bleeding and respond to both life-threatening and minor injuries.
- Identify signs of stroke, shock, and unconsciousness.
- Use simple tools like DRSABCD, SAMPLE & PQRST to assess patients quickly.
- Protect yourself and others using gloves, face shields, and safety practices.
- Communicate clearly with emergency services and complete incident reports.
- Remain calm and take the lead when no one else knows what to do.

You’ll respond to realistic scenarios tailored to your workplace environment, using the S.A.M.P.L.E. assessment tool to identify the mechanism of injury and provide appropriate care.
You’ll also practise following site-specific procedures and learn how to report serious incidents to the relevant regulatory authority, just as you would in a real emergency.

Blended: 1 -1.5 hours online + 2-2.5 hours face-to-face
Face-to-Face: 4 – 4.5 hours classroom-based session.

More About This Course
Language, literacy and numeracy requirements are needed to undertake this course.
Specifically, students need the ability to:
•Be able to complete simple forms and reports
•Verbally communicate important details of an incident.
•Read guidelines for resuscitation.
Age 14 and above, with ages 14-16 years with parental consent.
Completing online registration and knowledge evidence of this course.
*It is important to note that the HLTAID competency standards do require a level of physical ability to meet the evidence requirements for assessment. These standards relate to the level of performance required to provide resuscitation and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to life.
