Course Description
Overview/Content
An ACECQA (Australian Children’s Education & Care Authority) approved first aid course specific to the children’s services sector. The HLTAID012 covers child specific first aid and prepares you to ;
• Respond to a first aid emergency
• Apply appropriate First aid procedures
• Communicate details of the incident
• and review the incident
As a blended learning course, you are able to complete the knowledge component in your own time preparing you for our interactive; real life scenarios practical session.
Learning Objectives
• Follow the Emergency Action Plan DRSABCD including the recovery position.
• Perform CPR on an adult, child and an infant manikin
• Using the AED to deliver a shock, including the use on an AED on children.
• Strategies to ensure the casualty feels safe, secure and supported.
• Manage medical conditions and emergencies such as;
o Anaphylaxis and Asthma.
o Nose bleed, non-life threatening bleeds and Minor wound cleaning and dressing.
o Choking.
o Shock.
o Envenomation (using pressure Immobilisation).
o Fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains, using appropriate immobilisation techniques such as bandages and slings.
Prerequisites
Reading, writing, language skills to perform all tasks.
16 years and above.
Complete online registration and knowledge evidence of this course.
*It is important to note that the HLTAID competency standards do require a level of physical ability to meet the evidence requirements for assessment. These standards relate to the level of performance required to provide resuscitation and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to life.
Delivery Mode
Blended: 1.5 -2 hours online + 4 – 4.5 hours face-to-face
Face-to-Face: – 7.5 -8 hours classroom-based session

Certificate Validity
3 years.
The ARC (Australian Resuscitation Council) advises that annual refresher training is needed for individuals who do not perform CPR on a regular basis.
