Course Description

Overview/Content

Walk away with confidence not just competence!

Emergency situations happen without notice and can be both traumatic and shocking. This
unit describes the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation
(CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. It applies to all
persons who may be required to provide CPR, in a range of situations, including community
and workplace settings.

Specific licensing/regulatory requirements relating to this competency, including requirements
for refresher training should be obtained from the relevant national/state/territory Work
Health and Safety Regulatory Authorities.

You will need to physically demonstrate the following:

• Emergency Action Plan DRSABCD
• Recovery/side/lateral position & improvising methods
• Perform CPR as single rescuer, with rotations • Respond appropriately in the event of regurgitation or vomiting
• Use adult (on floor) and infant (firm surface) manikins
• Operate Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) relevant procedures
• Give a verbal account to emergency services, and participate in a Debrief/evaluation, and complete an incident report form

Language, literacy and numeracy requirements are needed to undertake this course.
Specifically, students need the ability to:

  • Be able to complete simple forms and reports
    •Verbally communicate important details of an incident.
    •Read guidelines for resuscitation.
  • Age 14 and above, with ages 14-16 years with parental consent
  • Completing online registration and knowledge evidence of this course
  • It is important to note that the HLTAID competency standards do require a level of physical ability to meet the evidence requirements for assessment. These standards relate to the level of performance required to provide resuscitation and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to life.
