Blended Standard MHFA training consists of e-learning followed by a half-day face-to-face online session.

What is MHFA training course about?

Mental health first aid is the help provided to a person who is developing a mental health problem, or who is in a mental health crisis (eg, the person is suicidal or has had a traumatic experience). Like physical first aid, mental health first aid is provided until the person receives professional help or until the crisis resolves.

Mental health first aid strategies are taught in evidence-based training courses structured by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Australia and delivered by accredited MHFA instructors across the country. Emergency First Aid offers the blended Standard MHFA courses as authored and structured by MHFA Australia.

The course is relevant to all roles, industries and company sizes. Best of all, the skills and knowledge you learn in the course can be useful in your personal life and those around you.

What does the course cover? 

The course teaches you how to recognize the signs and symptoms of different illnesses and crises, how to offer support and how to provide initial help and guide the individual to appropriate treatment and ongoing care.

Mental health problems covered:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety problems
  • Psychosis
  • Substance use problems

Mental health crises covered:

  • Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
  • Non-suicidal self-injury
  • Panic attacks
  • Traumatic events
  • Severe effects of alcohol or other drug use
  • Severe psychotic states
  • Aggressive behaviours

Course Structure

  • E-learning (5-7hrs)

Each participant will undertake and complete a self-paced e-learning session which takes approximately 5-7 hours. Please give yourself enough time to complete the e-learning. There will be a quiz to complete.

Once you register with Emergency First Aid, participants will be given a link to complete the e-learning training.

You must have completed the e-learning training before attending an online face-to-face workshop. Please email your certificate of completion of the online training to us at ………… at least 1 week prior to the online face to face session you are registered in to confirm your place.

  • Online Zoom Face-to-face workshop

The Zoom online session will be conducted for 5 hours in two days. 2.5 hours each day

Sessions will have a maximum of 12 participants and the dates are listed below. Please only register for one session; and cancel your registration if you are no longer able to attend so places can be offered to participants on the waiting list.


On successful completion of this course, participants will be issued with a 3-year Certificate of Accreditation.
