- How to Perform CPR on Adults, Children & Infants
You’ll learn the correct techniques for different age groups, including adjusting hand placement, compression depth, and breath ratios. Using the wrong method can cause harm — this course ensures you know how to apply it correctly and confidently.
While our course materials reinforce the importance of practising CPR regularly, data from Ambulance Victoria shows why it matters: in 2022–23, the overall survival rate for cardiac arrests in Victoria was 34% when bystander CPR and defibrillation were used before emergency services arrived (Ambulance Victoria, 2023).
- How to Use an AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
Have you walked past an AED or been inducted onto a work site without knowing where it is — or how to use it?
AEDs are now required in many workplaces, including schools, offices, construction sites, and shopping centres. However, many people still aren’t confident in using one. Our course gives you hands-on experience with AEDs: how to turn one on, attach the pads correctly, follow voice prompts, and deliver a shock safely.
Early defibrillation is vital — the Heart Foundation recommends use within the first few minutes for the best chance of survival.
- The DRSABCD Action Plan
Before you begin CPR, you’ll be trained to follow the DRSABCD action plan:
Danger, Response, Send for help, Airway, Breathing, CPR, Defibrillation
You’ll practise how to assess a scene for safety, manage bystanders, and coordinate your response. These steps follow the Basic Life Support – ARC Guideline 8 (ARC, 2021).
- How to Recognise Cardiac Arrest & Unconsciousness
Not all collapses are the same. You’ll be taught to identify signs of cardiac arrest, including lack of responsiveness and abnormal breathing, using proven methods like “Look, Listen, and Feel.”
You’ll also learn how to safely place someone in the recovery position, a simple but essential step in maintaining an open airway while waiting for help.
- How to Communicate Clearly in an Emergency
Emergencies are high-stress situations, and clear communication is critical. You’ll learn how to remain calm, speak to emergency services (000), and manage bystanders.
You’ll also be briefed on legal obligations around consent, reporting, and documentation — all aligned with WorkSafe Victoria’s guidelines for workplace first aid compliance.
